Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? London; I am an anglophile and I love the city’s history, architecture, tradition, creativity, style and so many other aspects. It is truly an elegant and livable city.

What are three words to describe your style? 1. Bold 2. Dynamic 3. Mixed

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? As a kid, I loved to decorate seasonally with a heavy emphasis on Fall – my favorite time of year – and Christmas/New Year’s. Decorating for Christmas was a beloved, massive feat each year. It wasn’t unusual for me to have a full-sized Christmas tree in my bedroom, sometimes larger than the family tree in the living room!

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? A gold Platner armchair upholstered in a white bouclé fabric—I had wanted one for years.  It currently lives in a happy rotation between my bedroom and living room.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Billy Baldwin

No room is complete without at least one antique or vintage piece.

People think of me as a rule-follower, but I am really a rule-breaker.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: leatherleaf fern and other superfluous accents

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: aioli or anything in similar vein to mayonnaise

  • A bar cabinet: anything in a plastic bottle

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: “Resolve” By Poppy Ackroyd

  • Working at your desk: “Breathin” by Ariana Grande

  • Going for a run: “Body” by Loud Luxury

Biggest Vice? 12 dollar smoothies

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? In the day to day, I dress in a fairly edited way.  I love soft textures like cashmere and prefer to wear clothing that allows me to move easily.  My interiors tend to be more complex and layered than my wardrobe.

Who is your star crush? Beyoncé

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? A sofa without throw pillows.

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be? Jamie Drake’s New American Glamour, he gave me a copy with a signed note on the title page when I was an intern 12 years ago—it has a lot of sentimental value for obvious reasons!

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? A curatorial mix that spans time and place, polished, unexpected, edited, glamorous, livable, somewhat aloof to trend.
