Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Hawaii.  My husband is from Hawaii and we always have the most wonderful vacations there.  Its laid back and has an interesting fusion of culture that is so different from New York

What are three words to describe your style? 1. classic 2. modern 3. layered

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? I had a yellow bedroom with a painted white canopy bed and matching white furniture.  I begged my parents to let me paint it myself because I hated the yellow they chose.  They were horrified.  I asked if I could do it just in my closet then and they still said no.  I think that frustration led to me becoming a designer!

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? I bought a dark glossy round dining table by Helene Aumont from Profiles.  I have a square dining room so the only shape that works is round.  It has round leaves so the table becomes enormous for a giant party.  I absolutely love this table still.  Its too bad my son melted some pink cellophane on it with a candle on his birthday.  I have to get it repaired!

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be?  Albert Hadley for one house and Renzo Mongiardino for another!

No room is complete without pillows.

People think of me as very feminine, but I am really a little modern.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement  Green Filler

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter a cheese ball

  • A bar cabinet too many tools

A song for:

  • Dinner at home  Circles Post Malone

  • Working at your desk Bach Cello Suites

  • Going for a run  Good as Hell by Lizzo

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? I’d be shopping on Net A Porter. I love the immediate gratification of immediate delivery.  I could be buying anything from face creamlingerie (this bra is a great thing to wear if you might have straps showing), shoes, or a dress for an event the next day.

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how?  I think so.  I like clean lines, a sense of femininity and a bit of whimsical flourish.

Who is your star crush? Right now its Olivia Coleman.  Love her!

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it?  An accent wall.

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be?  Rooms by Minn Hogg

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for?  For being original yet completely relatable
