Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? New Zealand

What are three words to describe your style? Minimal, Refined, Holistic

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? I grew up in a bedroom with a jungle gym bed. Oh it was the best thing, you slept in it and there was a bunkbed and you could climb all around it.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? My first investment piece was inheriting from my mother the eames chair my father gifted her the year I was born, 1968, which was made in rosewood. That started my collection of modern furniture.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Peter Zumthor

No room is complete without a candle.

People think of me as outgoing, but I am really introverted when creative.

 Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: Baby’s breath

  • An hors d’oeuvre: Platter crudités

  • A bar cabinet: Triple Sec

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: I Wish I Knew - John Coltrane Quartet

  • Working at your desk: Keith Jarrett’s The Köln Concert

  • Going for a run: Ramble On - Led Zeppelin

Biggest Vice? Chocolate

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? Piero Lissoni NeoWall Sofa

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Yes, functional luxury with simplicity.

Who is your star crush? Stevie Nicks

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? French Cove and Crown Molding

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be? Frank Lloyd Wright Selected Drawings Vol. 1

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Harmonious, emotive, deeply connected spaces.
