Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Coastal Chile. There is an infinite view across the ocean. It is completely relaxing. I am at totally at peace there. The sunsets are so special.

What are three words to describe your style?

1. Unpredictable

2. Colorful

3. Story-telling

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? Masculine with soft, feminine undertones. My parents allowed me to be involved in the decor. I used a Colefax and Fowler print!

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? In my 20’s I bought a set of Biedermeier Klismos chairs. I still own them! They are beautiful and functional.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? I grew up in NYC in the 80’s so any amazing designer from that era, of course! Mark Hampton (naturally!), Mario Buatta, Albert Hadley - any of the greats that shaped my career as a designer.

No room is complete without: BOOKS !

People think of me as serious, but I am really funny.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: Daisies

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: Mixed olives - not a fan of the pits and where to put them, etc..

  • A bar cabinet: Apple Pucker

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: Any of the Hôtel Costes mixes

  • Working at your desk: Dua Lipa

  • Going for a run: Dua Lipa

Biggest Vice? Sweets. I have a massive sweet tooth.

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? Accolay pottery - it is getting dangerous!

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? I like to keep it easy and seem to have ‘uniforms’. My friends have made fun of me and said I look like a Prada salesperson bc I am like a walking billboard for the brand. Lately I am wearing a lot of white jeans and button downs BUT I ALWAYS wear fun shoes.

Who is your star crush? Harry Styles

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? Nothing as long as it works for the space and/or the client’s personality.

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be?  The New York Apartment Houses of Rosario Candela and James Carpenter, still some of my favorite design and a constant inspiration.

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Attention to detail, always about the client, varied - ornate to restrained.
