Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? I actually have a second home in Lisbon and soon, I’ll be spending more time there and less time at my home in Los Angeles.

What are three words to describe your style?

1. Classic

2. Timeless

3. Sophisticated

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? My bedroom as a child was always neat and tidy, the bed was always made and you could bounce a quarter off it, though I was never in the military. Also, it was never arranged the same for more than 6 months.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? The first investment pieces I ever bought was a pair of Wassily chairs for my first apartment in the 80’s.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be?
I would contract the services of Billy Haines to design the interiors in my Paul Williams designed home.

No room is complete without good lighting!

People think of me as a major extrovert, but I can be somewhat shy at times.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: Baby’s breath and Carnations

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: Anything resembling Pigs in a Blanket

  • A bar cabinet: Any bright colored alcohol or liqueur

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: Lush Life by Nancy Wilson

  • Working at your desk: The Look of Love by Sergio Mendes & Brazil ‘66

  • Going for a run: Run the World (Girls) by Beyonce

Biggest Vice? Shoe shopping

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy?
Cleaning products not sold in stores.

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Yes, my clothes reflect my design sensibility, classic and always tailored.

Who is your star crush? Tina Turner

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it?  Monochromatic beige interiors.

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be?
Paul R. Williams: Classic Hollywood Style

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Classic and timeless with a slight edge
