Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Paris

What are three words to describe your style?

1. Crafted

2. Comfortable

3. Timeless

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? It was like a fantastic eclectic jungle with a fishing net hung across the ceiling, over 200 plants and a loft bed hung from the ceiling that I built with my father. It was tiny and a wonderland of imagination.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? Early in my career when I was poor, I bought a painting by Bruce Brainard for $5,000. It felt like a fortune then and it still hangs in my house today.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be?
Pierre Yovanovitch

No room is complete without: art and great lighting.

People think of me as having much figured out, but I am really someone who is sure of very little, and just insatiably curious and excited to learn about everything.

Things you omit from:

  • 1. A flower arrangement: More than one type of flower. I prefer the strength and simplicity of using only one type of flower in a vase.

  • 2. An hors d’oeuvre platter: Stinky cheese

  • 3. A bar cabinet: Cheap liquor

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: Into the Mystic – Van Morrison

  • Working at your desk: This Must Be The Place – Talking Heads

  • Going for a run: Texas Sun – Leon Bridges & Khruangbin

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? I think so - well-crafted, understated, beautiful fabrics.

Who is your star crush? Olivia Wilde

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? I’d like my work to be known for it’s timelessness and the quality of the elements within the work. I love being a part of creating things that last.
