Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Santorini, Greece. It’s so dreamy — the black rocky beaches, four-wheelers, amazing wine, fun clubs, incredible restaurants. And the view is absolutely unreal.

What are three words to describe your style?
Daring, Dramatic, Fearless

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? It was constantly changing — a nonstop experiment.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? A Jack Dowd sculpture of a maid. It’s a life-size piece I bought 33 years ago at a gallery in Caesar’s Palace.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Iris Apfel, she's unapologetic.

No room is complete without: Controversy

People think of me as: An extrovert, but I am really an introvert.

Things you omit from:

A Flower Arrangement: Fake Plants

An hors d’oeuvre platter: Things that you think you should have because others do but you don't need it and it does not serve your purpose

A bar cabinet: Placeholders, instead of getting something you can afford in the moment but you do not love, wait for your dream piece

A song for:

Dinner at home: Welcome to the Jungle
Working at your desk: Can’t Stop the Feeling
Going for a run: Hard Fought Hallelujah

Biggest Vice? Great shoes

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? A Maserati SUV

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? I’d say they do — but my sensibility is bold and fearless. I wear things most people would never think to combine, and somehow I make it work.

Who is your star crush? George Clooney

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? When they make everything match. It does not lighten any senses.

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be? Frank Lloyd Wright

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? If there were a song that captured how I feel about design, it would be New York State of Mind. No matter where you are in the world, you know New York is a melting pot of design. It’s where electricity and authenticity begin — and I want people to think of me in that same way.
