Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Bermuda, or Peter Bay in St. John

What are three words to describe your style?

1.     Polished

2.     Storied

3.     Inviting

Tell us about your childhood bedroom?
My childhood bedroom was a dark navy blue, covered in yellow suns, moons, and stars. I guess I liked color drenching even then!

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? Two original rosewood Eames chairs and ottomans from the 1960s. They currently live in my upstate house.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Thomas O’Brien

No room is complete without a natural material.

People think of me as a contemporary designer, but I am really more of a traditionalist.

Things you omit from

  • A flower arrangement: Orchids or Baby’s Breath

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: Liver Pâté

  • A bar cabinet: Half full bottles of mediocre vodka!

A song for

  • Dinner at home: Anything Bon Iver

  • Working at your desk: Down Tempo Instrumental Music (so its not distracting)!

  • Going for a run: LCD Soundsystem

Biggest Vice?
Coffee and a slice of dark chocolate cake!

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? Probably some expensive jewelry or shoes - I have my eye on a pair of Manolos.

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Yes. My clothes are eclectic like our design style, and can vary based on my mood similarly to how we vary design choices depending on a client’s taste and personality.

Who is your star crush? Jeremy Allen White or Justin Bieber

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? A Patterned Sofa

What design book do you find yourself going back to again and again? Any of Carlos Mota’s, but I have also been very into Brazilian design lately and have looked a lot to Sergio Rodrigues and Arthur Casas for inspiration.

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? My signature design style, layered minimalism!
