Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

What are three words to describe your style?

1. Whimsical

2. Timeless

3. Curated

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? My bedroom had blue shag wall to wall carpet, bunk beds and a crazy patterned wall covering that resembled Christmas wrapping paper! I pulled up the carpet and painted my concrete floors white, it was my first do it yourself design project.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? A pair of Gio Ponti arm chairs for my ranch in Texas

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be?
Andrée Putman

No room is complete without: Art!

People think of me as relaxed, but I am really disciplined with a touch of OCD.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: Anything red

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: Blue Cheese

  • A bar cabinet: Tonic Water

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: Radiohead

  • Working at your desk: Rufus du Sol

  • Going for a run: Miley Cyrus

Biggest Vice? Martinis!

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? Yves Saint Laurent bags

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Yes, tailored and edited with a splash of color and glamour

Who is your star crush? Brad Pitt

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? I don’t do a lot of traditional design, but I respect it, and I do love a frilly sofa skirt or a trim on a valance.

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be?
My book, The Art of Home

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for?
Inspiring people
