Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Maui

What are three words to describe your style? 1. Classic 2. Modern 3. Culture Driven

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? Red lacquer walls, white and black damask upholstery with mod Peter Max artwork

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? An antique China cabinet, similar to one I saw photographed in Mica Erteguns’ house years ago in an old House & Garden magazine.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Mies Van Der Rohe

No room is complete without books!

People think of me as intense, but I am really quite silly

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement - Gladiolas

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter - chopped liver (unless my mom made it!)

  • A bar cabinet - nothing!

A song for:

  • Dinner at home  - anything by Frank Sinatra and Henri Mancini

  • Working at your desk - anything by Frank Sinatra (I LOOOOOVE FRANK!!!!!)

  • Going for a run - ”Feedback” by Janet Jackson

Biggest Vice? Baking from scratch!

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? Manolo Blahniks, always!

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how?  Yes, they are comfortable and I’m cool if a dog sits on me.

Who is your star crush?  The Rock! That eyebrow raise, gets me every time!

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? Balloon shades with pelmets

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be?  Sir Bannister Fletcher History of Architecture

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for?  Being a place to come home to!
