Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? We have a country house in West Sussex but number 3 would be in Tangiers

What are three words to describe your style? 1. Classic 2. Eclectic 3. Chic

Tell us about your childhood bedroom?  Orange carpet, white furniture and a large poster of Princess Caroline of Monaco above my bed

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house?  A very large drawing by Jean Cocteau

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Stephane Boudin, Albert Hadley or Jean Michel Frank

No room is complete without humour.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement : anything too exotic

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: never a platter

  • A bar cabinet: decanters

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: Manhattan by Lee Wiley

  • Working at your desk: Claire de Lune by Claude Debussy

  • Going for a run: no idea what you’re talking about

Biggest Vice? Too many

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? OMG, that is when I place too many absentee bids in auctions around the world. The following week can be scary!

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Not sure. I like my clothes to be elegant, understated and invisible

Who is your star crush? Paul Newman

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be?  Jansen Decoration

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for?  Chic
