Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Tucked in a redwood forest, overlooking a body of water in West Marin.

What are three words to describe your style?

1. Personal

2. Relaxed

3. Considered

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? There were a few, but most memorable was ‘76 to ‘78… white laminate, navy wide whale corduroy, aluminum blinds and a photo mural of a beach.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? I don’t buy anything as an investment.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be?
Jacques Grange

No room is complete without light dimmers.

People think of me as a lover but I am also a fighter.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: More than one type of flower

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: Anything that smells

  • A bar cabinet: The cabinet

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: Bill Evans

  • Working at your desk: Bach

  • Going for a run: House

Biggest Vice? Weed

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? Probably ceramics

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? I guess…layered, comfortable, textured, collected.

Who is your star crush? The Obamas

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it?
Lacquered walls

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be? I’d grab something else

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? I’m not that interested in posterity.
