Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? In Haiti, overlooking the ocean

What are three words to describe your style?

1. Global

2. Layered

3. Vibrant

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? I come from a big family and always shared a room. My childhood bedroom was functional. As a child, I preferred spending time in the common spaces.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? Art from gallery in Johannesburg, South Africa.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Iranian French architect and designer, India Mahdavi. I love her use of scale, pattern and color in the spaces she designs

No room is complete without: ART, ART, ART

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: dried branches

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: shrimp cocktail

  • A bar cabinet: Fireball

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: Bossa Nova

  • Working at your desk: Instrumental Lofi

  • Going for a run: The Spirit by Machel Montano

 Biggest Vice? Antique shopping

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? I love vintage rings. If I was high on Ambien, I’d purchase this ring right this second!

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Yes, I love wearing patterns, comfortable and versatile clothing. Like my love for decor, I love accessorizing. No outfit is complete without a set of bangles.

Who is your star crush? Jonathan Majors

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? Two different fabrics on upholstery (example patterned fabric on front and solid on the back).

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be? Caribbean Style, a vintage book from the late 80s with houses from various Caribbean islands.

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? It’s storytelling capabilities.
