Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Kiawah, South Carolina

What are three words to describe your style?

1. Traditional

2. Eclectic

3. Sophisticated

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? Laura Ashley overload...yellow walls/floral bedding/lampshades! Which is funny, because I never use yellow now! Maybe for this reason!

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? A large format photography piece of an oak tree with Spanish moss...a touch of my Southern roots in my NYC apartment.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Elsie de Wolfe.

No room is complete without antiques that tell a story.

People think of me as outgoing, but I am really an introvert.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: Baby’s breath

  • An hordeurves platter: Meat! I’m a pescatarian

  • A bar cabinet: Any tacky liquor bottles

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: “Je T’aime moi non plus-

  • Working at your desk: “Feel your weight” Rhye poolside mix

  • Going for a run: I don’t run! But if I had to..”Gloria” by Laura Branigan

Biggest Vice? Screen time

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? Vintage fabrics

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? I think so! I love a combination of highs and lows. For example-floral patterned dresses paired with something more relaxed like boots or a fringed cape.

Who is your star crush? I don’t know! Bradley cooper?

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? Minimalism

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be? In the Pink (Dorothy Draper)

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? For standing the test of time. Spaces that tell a story or that truly depict the people who live in them.
