Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live?
San Miguel de Allende

What are three words to describe your style?

1. Elegant

2. Restrained

3. Comfortable

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? Oh, it was fabulous! I had sky blue walls and a celery toned canopy bed with string lights wrapped all around it. It was a collection of finds from travel with my mom to Mexico and France mixed with Urban Outfitters.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? When I was still a student at Parsons, I splurged on a mid century rosewood credenza from Horseman Antiques. It is such a classic!

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Jean Michel Frank

No room is complete without: something that feels nostalgic and sentimental to the client.

People think of me as a New Yorker, but I am really a Texan at heart!

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: Lilies

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: Toothpicks

  • A bar cabinet: Red solo cups

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: Chan Chan - Buena Vista Social Club

  • Working at your desk: Anything from The Row’s monthly spotify playlists

  • Going for a run: A little less conversation - JXL, Elvis

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? While not intentional, it seems so! I always gravitate towards tailored looks that feel pared back but still sophisticated.

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? Maximalism! While it doesn't feel right for my spaces, I do love a room filled to the brim with mixed prints, layered textiles, eclectic art and books. These spaces always feel so bohemian and cozy.

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be?
Rose Uniacke At Home

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Having a point of view and fresh sensibility. But ultimately, I want the homes that I design to be remembered as happy, comfortable spaces that brought joy to my clients.
