Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Copenhagen

What are three words to describe your style?
1.
Comfortable
2. Textural
3. Transitional

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? I once took an entire ream of paper and covered the walls in origami. The scissors and tape were quickly taken away.

Whats the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? I bought a stool by Alma Allen about 10 years ago, beautiful claro walnut, still one of my favorite things.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Robert Stilin.

No room is complete without green.

People think of me as an extrovert, but I am really a total hermit.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: Babys breath

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: Olives

  • A bar cabinet: All of it, sober 9 years

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: Pulaski at Night - Andrew Bird

  • Working at your desk: Harry Hood - Phish

  • Going for a run: Coastal Break - Tycho

Biggest Vice? Art.

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? Shoes!

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Yes, updated classics.

Who is your star crush? Jason Bateman

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it?
Run stripes vertically.

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be?
Rendez Vous, a collection of designers homes, most notably Charlie Ferrer.

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Comfort and ease.
