Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Maine

What are three words to describe your style?

  • Traditional

  • Collected

  • Evolving

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? My childhood bedroom was classic Lee Jofa. As a child of the 90’s, there were florals, bows and chintz galore. And a pink toile tufted reading chair that I seriously regret not keeping for my own daughters…

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? Art, always. Art has been a major part of my life starting with my grandparents and their all encompassing love of beauty from Remington sculptures to Louis Comfort Tiffany glass, my parents collections ranging from the abstract orphism of Sonia Delauney to 20th century South American art, to my own decision to formally study art history and seek out what my own path as a collector may look like.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer, who would it be?  Mario Buatta

No room is complete without your favorite fabric from The Kravet Family of Brands….and antiques.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: multiple colors. I like a single tone arrangement with floral variety but not color variety.

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: anything messy

  • A bar cabinet: nothing. Be prepared!

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: Taylor Swift

  • Working at your desk: Taylor Swift

  • Going for a run: Taylor Swift…is there any setting where Taylor Swift isn’t the correct answer?

Biggest Vice? Shopping

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? Many more sets of china than my cabinet space would allow.

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how?  Sometimes. Although I am willing to take more risks with my clothes, my design sensibility tends to remain classically grounded.

Who is your star crush? John Krasinski

What is the one thing you would never decorate your home with, but don’t detest when you see others do it?  Minimalism. As someone who identifies with the Brunschwig & Fils maximalist mentality of “more is more”, I very much admire those who can exercise a level of measured restraint.

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for?  I’m not sure about my work….but myself? Kindness.
