If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live?
Knokke! I love going there on weekends with my husband and son.
Three words to describe your style:
• Classic
• Warm
• Understated
Tell us about your childhood bedroom:
I had a pink toile de Jouy bedroom — a truly girly room. I still remember falling asleep looking at all those little characters.
What was the first investment piece you ever bought for your home?
Two Joaquim Tenreiro chairs from Galerie Alexandre Frederic. I felt very bold that day — I asked for them to be upholstered in tomato red!
If you could hire any designer from history (other than yourself), who would it be?
Jacques Grange
No room is complete without:
Indirect lighting ;)
People think of me as serious, but in reality: I’m a total party animal on weekends!
Things you omit from:
A flower arrangement: Pink roses
An hors d’oeuvre platter: Anything greasy — except saucisson
A bar cabinet: Bottles seperated from one another.
A song for:
Dinner at home: Saddle Up – David Christie
Working at your desk: Crucify Your Mind – Rodriguez
Going for a run: Freedom – George Michael
Biggest vice:
Compulsive candy eating.
If you were online shopping on an Ambien high, what would you buy?
(Still thinking about that one!)
Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility? If so, how?
In some way, yes. During the day, I’m usually in jeans and a soft T-shirt — very relaxed and comfortable. But in the evening, when I go out or to dinners, I love dressing up: heels, beautiful dresses, earrings, the whole look.
I think that’s exactly what I aim for in my interiors — a balance between comfort and beauty. I like mixing practical, everyday pieces with something refined and elegant. I’m always looking for that harmony — a chair that’s both beautiful and comfortable, without sacrificing one for the other.
Who is your star crush?
I’m drawn to intelligent and sensitive men, so probably Raphaël Enthoven — he’s a French philosopher and writer, very thoughtful (and incidentally, Carla Bruni’s ex!).
What’s something you would never do on a project, but don’t mind seeing others do?
Marble thicker than 4 or 5 cm — like those massive kitchen islands by Joseph Dirand. Unless a client specifically asks for it, I don’t feel comfortable designing chunky marble slabs.
What design book do you find yourself going back to again and again?
The Parisians: Tastemakers at Home.
For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for?
It might sound cliché, but I don’t care about fame or recognition. I just want my clients to tell me they love their home — that’s all I want to be known for.
