Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? My wife and I have casually dreamed about having a second home somewhere, maybe once the kids are grown and out of the house.  I think our ideal spot would be in Sonoma County, maybe Healdsburg.  It’s one of our favorite places to visit, we both enjoy good wine from the region, it’ beautiful, and the food and culture is amazing.

What are three words to describe your style? Light, Edgy, Timeless

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? I had two, one was a second story room in a classic craftsman bungalow (I grew up in a small town in Northeastern Oregon) and the other was in the basement of a mid-century ranch style home with barely any windows.  Maybe that’s why I can’t put enough windows and light into my homes today??  

In the history of design, if you could hire any architect other than yourself, who would it be? Renzo Piano

No room is complete without light!

People think of me as an architect, but I am really an artist that paints with light.

A song for:

·      Dinner at home: anything by Zach Bryan

·      Working at your desk: Adam’s song, Blink 182

·      Going for a run : Galvanize, Chemical Brothers

Biggest Vice? Video Games

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? Organic dark chocolate??

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? Put stone or brick on just the base of the home…my team knows that’s a no-no. But I probably still hate it when I see others do it.  

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be? From the Land by Howard Backen

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Bold, inventive and timeless.
