Julia Baum
If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Montecito, CA
What are three words to describe your style?
Elegant
Timeless
Sophisticated
Tell us about your childhood bedroom? It was fabulous! Shabby Chic style with white wood furniture, a floral bedspread with lace trim and matching pillows, light green carpet, and with a modern twist of vintage Chanel No.5 posters by Andy Warhol in pewter frames.
What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? A custom console in the manner of Gio Ponti. I love Italian Mid Century design, and I designed and customized a piece reminiscent of Gio Ponti that would fit the space and aesthetic perfectly.
In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Jean Michel Frank
No room is complete without personal effects such as photos, items purchased on a trip, or sentimental objects.

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? A complete Puiforcrat Art Deco Tea Set https://kneenandco.com/product/puiforcat-loya-art-deco-1927-tea-and-coffee-service/
Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Yes, I tend to wear lots of neutrals and timeless silhouettes (think black slacks with a mule and a cashmere crew neck sweater). I rather buy one amazing sweater that is high quality and will last forever than a bunch of items at a lower price point. My design sensibility is very much about steering away from trends, focusing on classic silhouettes, and high quality materials.
Who is your star crush? I haven't had one in a while, but for many years it was Christian Bale.
What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? Never say never!
What design book do you find yourself going back to again and again? Rose Uniacke at Work
For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Timeless elegance that is also comfortable.
