If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Santa Fe or coastal Maine

What are three words to describe your style?

  • Storied

  • Colorful

  • Artful

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? My bedroom was a converted sunroom that had 4 doors and 2 windows, which frightened me as a child. A door to the backyard, a door to my parent’s room (thank God), and double doors to the living room. I slept on a lovely daybed and had a bookshelf and just general beauty surrounding me, because my mom knew what she was doing.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? Honestly, it was a tall, narrow antique cabinet to house my broom and vacuum. AKA: a broom closet. I forgot (truly!) to add one into the home renovation in 2019, and searched for a few years for one that fit into an exact spot. It’s beautiful, fits perfect and had a big price tag.

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Yes! I wear a mix of vintage, readymade affordable stuff, and a few splurge pieces, and I design in the same way. I also love mixing colors and patterns, with a little thought and quite a bit of impulse.

Who is your star crush? Christian Bale in Newsies

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? Seashell mirrors. I love collecting seashells, but don’t like them in a decorative sense for my own projects. I do appreciate them in other’s work though. It’s a real catch 22! I prefer them as curated artifacts on display rather than in a crafty manner.

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Originality, creativity and honestly kindness- want to delight the client

  • The fabric you always come back to: Jasper ‘Gretta’

  • Dream project: I’ve had some recently, and so grateful. Generally, I dream of historic homes… anywhere in the world with clients who are trusting, and delighted by beauty!

  • Meal: Oysters, steak and fries

  • Drink: Martini, extra dirty, extra olives

  • Hotel: Le Grand Mazarin in Paris and the Asticou Hotel in Acadia, Maine

  • Travel Destination: Paris, just went for the first time and want to go back once a year if possible… for eternity. Stateside: Santa Fe, Charleston and New York

  • Artist: Milton Avery

  • Thing to collect obsessively: Feathers, seashells, and art

  • Era in the history of design: 1920’s

  • Museum: Oh my... a tough one. Natural History Museum in London or Deyrolle in Paris
