Beth Webb
If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Well, we do have a second home in the Low Country that we love, but were there to be a third home, my husband and I would say St. Barth’s!
What are three words to describe your style?
Serene
Elegant/Tailored
Comfortable
Tell us about your childhood bedroom? My mother let me decorate my room in 4th grade, and I remember going to the fabric store with my grandmother and mother. I picked out a blue and green floral print, which we used everywhere…window treatments, bedding, etc.
What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? A set of 1825 Baltimore chairs from the ‘Heart of Country’ Antique Show, before it was known as the National Antiques Show. I think I was 24 years old!
In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be?
Although he was a fashion designer, he had such exquisite taste…Bill Blass – his New York apartment to this day sets the bar as does the Connecticut house.
No room is complete without a dog!
People think of me as somewhat of an extrovert, but I am really more of an introvert. I need a lot of time alone.
Things you omit from:
A flower arrangement: Chrysanthemums
An hors d’oeuvre platter: Cured meats
A bar cabinet: Plastic bar tools or a cheap martini shaker
A song for:
Dinner at home: Ella Fitzgerald’s ‘Someone to Watch Over Me’ *and* ‘Hang on Little Tomato’ by Pink Martini
Working at your desk: Allen Toussaint ‘Blue Drag’
Going for a run: Anna Nalick ‘Breathe (2 AM)’
Biggest Vice? I tell my children I get paid to be OCD. I’ve gotten better over the years, but still in all it’s a good thing and a bad thing!
If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? Anything at all from Casa Gusto in Palm @getthegusto – www.getthegusto.com
Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Yes…simple, tailored and elegant.
Who is your star crush? George Clooney
What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it?
Swags and fabric cornice boards.
What design book do you find yourself going back to again and again? Rose Tarlow’s The Private House
For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Timeless elegance.
