If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live?
Lake Como or the Mountains (Montana, Aspen, West) 

What are three words to describe your style?

  • Modern

  • Eclectic

  • Layered

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? Very ’80s, gray, and modern, with gray geometric wallpaper and sports cars on the walls. 

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? A fabulous rug I discovered in Istanbul and had framed to hang on the wall. It always reminds me of my travels.  

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Jean-Michel Frank—I love Art Deco, Modern.  

No room is complete without: wallcovering, of course!

  • Dinner at home: Jazz / The In Crowd by Ramsey Lewis Trio / Girl from Ipanema

  • Working at your desk: Nothing.

  • Going for a run: “7 Nation Army” by The White Stripes (Work Hard - Play Hard!)  

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? I recently bought a neck massager.  

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Italian men’s brands are my fave—refined, modern, comfortable, great material.  

Who is your star crush? Jessica Alba.  

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? Super TRAD is not my style, but I appreciate it.  

What design book do you find yourself going back to again and again? Live, Love & Decorate by Martyn Lawrence Bullard. It has a forward by Elton John (whose Los Angeles home designed by Martyn features our wallcovering).  

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Helping make the world a little better than I found it.

  • Scent: Le Labo Santal 26

  • The wallcovering you always come back to: Horsehair. (Ours is made with abaca fibers.)  

  • Meal: Veal parm at Il Mulino (not in Italy, in the city)

  • Drink: Xtra cold, xtra dirty, filthy Grey Goose martini w/ blue cheese olive

  • Hotel: La Palma, Capri

  • Travel Destination: Italy (Everywhere: Capri, Puglia, Sicily, Como, Rome)

  • A cause near and dear to me: Friendship Circle at the University of Michigan (my alma mater)

  • Thing to collect obsessively: Hotel Pens

  • Era in the history of design: Art Deco

  • Museum: Van Gogh – Amsterdam
