Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? France- as I do!

What are three words to describe your style? 1. Considered 2. Warm 3. Luxurious

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? I had a thing about avocado… so dark avocado walls, white carpet and acid yellow table lamps. It was the seventies after all…..

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? A great painting by Sandra Blow, painted in 1961, she’s world-famous in England.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Robert Adam

No room is complete without dogs.

People think of me as serious, but I am really not.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: Gerberas (vile)

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: Fish roe, unless it’s caviar

  • A bar cabinet: Nothing, the more the better

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: Barbara: At Gottingen

  • Working at your desk: Bach, Always. Best stress reliever

  • Going for a run: I never run with music!

Biggest Vice? Good white burgundy

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? A pair of first class air tickets, somewhere warm.

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Yes, custom made clothing. I have a thing about Neapolitan tailoring: and preferably entirely hand-stitched.

Who is your star crush? Jake Gyllenhaal

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? Horizontally striped curtains, and I DO detest it in other’s work. Sorry!

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be? Parish Hadley: Sixty years of American Design

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Longevity
